Blue Berry Tiger Barb
A "blue berry" tiger barb is a color morph of the classic tiger barb, often called the blue velvet tiger barb (puntius tetrazona). it is a selectively bred, semi-aggressive, schooling fish known for its striking blue sheen and it=s generally easy to care for in a well-maintained aquarium. They require ample swimming space and should be kept in groups of six or more to minimize aggression and fin-nipping.
Care and Requirements
- Temperament: Semi-aggressive and energetic. Can nip fins, especially if kept in a small group or with long-finned fish.
- Social behavior: A schooling fish that needs to be kept in groups of at least six or more to reduce aggression towards each other and other tank mates.
- Tank size: Minimum of 20 gallons is recommended, with larger tanks being better for more swimming space.
- Tank mates: Avoid slow-moving, long-finned fish. Good tank mates include other semi-aggressive or peaceful community fish like certain loaches, other robust barbs, or larger tetras.
- Diet: Omnivorous. Feed a high-quality commercial pellet or flake food, supplemented with algae wafers or nori, and occasional live or frozen foods like bloodworms to promote good health and color.
- water conditions: prefer soft, slightly acidic water
