Premium quality Tri-color Oranda
Tri-color Thai Oranda goldfish are a premium, highly sought-after variant of the Oranda goldfish, characterized by a, usually, red, white, and black coloration, often featuring a distinct, rounded body. Sourced from specialized breeders in Thailand, these fish are celebrated for their vibrant, contrasting colors and impressive "wen" (head growth).
Key Characteristics
- Coloration: Typically features a mix of red, white, and black, often described as "Tricolor" or “Tri-color”
- Body Shape: Thai Orandas, especially premium select types, are known for having very round, plump bodies for short body and a little bit of a longer body, longer back for the giant breed or jumbos. Some also have high-hump backs (short body/Yuanbao shape).
- Wen (Head Growth): They develop a fleshy growth on the top of their head, which can become quite large, sometimes covering the eyes. When is fat, and some fat may leak (white spots on head only) when in cold water. Also, if the wen covers the eyes, it can be trimmed down much like trimming finger nails and it won’t hurt the fish.
- Size: They can grow quite large, commonly available in sizes from juvenile (2–3 inches) up to large/jumbo (4-5.5+ inches).
- Fins: Often feature high dorsal fins and a well-developed, flowing tails. Each fish is unique with some having longer tails than others and also differing from peacock tails to orchid butterfly tails.
Care and Maintenance
- Temperature: 74-78°F
- Tank Size: Generally, a 30-gallon tank is recommended for one Oranda, with an additional 10 gallons for each subsequent fish.
*you can have more (3 in 30 gallon for example) but filtration needs to be close to perfect and you must be filtering for 2-3 times the tank size
- Water Quality: Excellent filtration and regular water changes are required, as they prefer clean, stable water conditions.
- Feeding: They are omnivorous and benefit from a varied diet of high-quality sinking pellets, flakes, and frozen foods.
- Wen Maintenance: Because their head growth can grow large, the wen may need to be trimmed if it obstructs their vision.
